کیونکہ میں موت کے لیے نہ رُک سکی
He kindly stopped for me- موت میرے پاس آ کر رُک گئی
The Carriage held but but Ourselves- اُس بگھی میں ہم دونوں ہی تھے
And Immortality. یا تیسری لافانیت ہمارے ساتھ تھی
We slow drove-He knew no haste
یہ جنازے کا سفر آہستہ آہستہ شروع ہوا کیونکہ موت کو عُجلت نہ تھی
And I had seat away اور میں نے بھی ترک کر دیا
My Labour in addition to my leisure too, اپنی مصروفیت اور فُرصت کو
For his Civility. اُسکی شائستگی کی وجہ سے
We passed the school,where Children strove
ہم ایک سکول کے پاس سے گذرے جہاں بچے کھیل میں مشغول تھے
At Recess-in the Ring, آدھی چُھٹی کے وقت کھیل کے میدان میں
We passed the Field of Gazing grain ہم پکی ہوئی گندم کے کھیت کے پاس سے گُزرے
We passed the setting sun- ہم غروب ہوتے ہوئے آفتاب کے پاس سے گُزرے

Or rather-He passed us-
یا موت نے ہم کو گُزار دیا
The dews drew quivering in addition to chill- شبنم کے قطرے میرے اُپر کپکپی طاری کر رہے تھے
For solely Gossamer,my Gown- کیانکہ میرا لباس جالی دار کپڑے کا تھا
My Tippet-only Tulle- اور میرا گلو بند بھی باریک تھا
We paused earlier a House that seemed ہم ایک گھر کے پاس رُکے اور ایسے لگا
A swelling of the Ground- جیسے زمین سوجھی ہوئی ہو
The roof was scarcely visible- اُس گھر کا چھت دکھائی نہیں دے رھی تھی
The Cornice-in the Ground- اور بالکونی بھی زیرِ زمین تھی
